Real Deal Homemade Hummus

hummus is a great invention... something like sliced bread :P its smooth and a bit salty and goes so good with veggies and olive oil. who needs the pitta bread? anyway, this is the first time i succeeded to make a real "restaurant hummus", i mean, it is as good as the one we had in a real arab place. first times i made it it was lumpy and too dry, the tricks are to use small kind of chickpeas, cook them for a long long time and adding baking soda to them. thats it! so now i share my wisdom :P to spare a few batches of wrong made hummus :P :P :P
here it is:http://www.yummyfoodies.com/en/posts/85-Homemade%20Hummus

Yummy Stew...

i love coming back from work, heating myself a nice bowl of stew and eating it with great bread (find an easy recipe here :)) .
especially  i love whipping the thick sauce with a piece of bread and making *NOM NOM* noises :P
anyway, i just made a fresh pot of thin rib stew and now im sitting and editing the post and drooling all over the pic sorry- had to brag... cant wait till i get home... but before i stop at the gym, to take off those extra pieces of bread (way way way more then 3)
so here it is, in all its glory: Thin rib stew, with wheat and olives.

What can be better than stew?

Two days ago while my dear bf was hungry... he mentioned something about a stew. so being a nice gf that i am ( :P :P :P) i defrosted a nice piece of meat- a thin rib acctually  (and it is not so nice but this what we bought). now remembering julia child (oh great one) i decided to make it with red wine, onions and mushrooms. the twist was the sunchokes- or the jerusalem artichokes... whatever u call them. so here it is- since it turned out great! really! all eaten by now :P

well... for making Mujaddara with Eggplant and Cauliflower  of course :)
a ew days ago we went to this arab restaurant and oredered Maklubeh which is a great dish of lamb and deep fried veggies. the thing is that it was very simple but so so good so i wanted to recreate some of this taste. BUT since lamb is Oh SO EXPensive i thought of making something close- also an arab dish... but with no meat. The fried veggies is what i was craving so i just added them to the traditional mujaddara recipe. it turned out great! a bit greasy since i fryed things in deep oil but nevertheless delicious.

If you were to make a time capsule today to be opened in 50 years, what would you put in it?

time capsule, ha? just this week i was talking to my bf about this book i would like to get. i want an old recipe book, with russian recipes. but i has to be really old. so i guess i would like to put my own cooking books inside, just so ppl will have a chance to see the kind of food we ate. but i mean real food. not the fancy restaurant crap, that doesnt say anything about u.
now when i think about it its kinda silly, though if i was the person opening the capsule i would be delighted. i have this semi-old book, from the soviet-era, full with simple and cheap recipes and i thinks its so so cool, but it has no personality. an ancient book would have the feel of the time and the place, using only specific ingredients and simple techniques.
i go look on ebay!

a stew or a roast?

enough with the salads already! not i have a craving for something meaty. i know, chicken is not  "meat", its the girlyest meat there is, i think. but, if thats what u have in ur fridge, and thats all i have in mine (since its so cheap), that'll have to do.

Picking berries

Love Berries! when we decided that we r going to go to pick them i could not wait. Here u can only buy those frozen or very expensive fresh... or not at all since the stores not always have those. I love berries! (did i say it already?) well it because they remind me of summer and childhood, when i used to pick those next to my aunts house. So we went to this place- 3 hours away from home... and picked till we filled the boxes and could not eat anymore. i was so so happy. but than i had a dilema. to eat or to cook?! well.. nothing seemed good enough, so i left them as they r and i eat them with my yogurt.

ppl think i lie when i say i love salads. silly them! they probably think about those boring ones made from tired tamatoes, cucumbers and ect. and if that was the case i would have to agree. B-O-R-i-N-G! but i havew another one today... chicken salad. simple and healthy... well may be if u use less mayo :P
